Koning Aap, Shoestring and YourWay2GO have achieved the Travelife sustainability certificate in 2015, just as we did in 2013! This means that we meet the strict criteria of Travelife. An achievement we are very proud of!
We make sure that we use as many sustainable accommodations and transportations as we can. And while at the office we also take into account the environment as much as possible. We actively collect plastic, recycle our printing paper and encourage employees to come to work by bicycle or public transportation.
All certified travel organisations are reviewed by an independent 'auditor' and meet with more than 150 Travelife criteria covering various topics such as product range, international trading partners and consumers.
Leading the way
The Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) has recognized Travelife as the first certification for tour operators in the world. The Travelife certification is comparable to the FSC standard for responsible forestry and the MSC standard for sustainable fisheries.
On January 9th 2013, Taleb Rifai, Secretary-General of the UN World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), awarded the first Travelife sustainability certificate at the 'Vakantiebeurs' (Tourism fair) in Utrecht to Koning Aap and two other Dutch travel organisations.
Frank Oostdam, Director of the ANVR: "The certification is an acknowledgment of the leading position of the Netherlands on sustainability in the travel sector. The ANVR has given sustainability a high priority for more than 10 years now. I am convinced that after these three, more ANVR travel companies will follow in qualifying for certification."
